Girl Scout Leadership Institute |
Leadership Institute
Have you ever dreamed of spending a week in the United States, participating in as many Girl Scout activities as you could possibly ever want, learn a lot, go to parties and concerts AND make tons of friends for a lifetime? Well, that is exactly what I got to do this past Toussaint vacation, thanks to the fact that I was selected, along with Helene and Cassandra of the Paris area Overseas Girl Scouts, to represent France at the recent Girl Scout 51st National Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. There are so many things to recall and remember here: first and foremost, I enjoyed participating in all sorts of workshops that were designed to make me understand the importance of self-esteem and believing in yourself.

Service is Fun for Troop 20! |
Service is Fun for Troop 20!

Awesome! What a weekend Senior Troop 20 had at Center Parks in Sologne
October 27-29 with ELA (the European Association that fights against
Leucodystrophy diseases). This association meets at Center Parks every
year for a family gathering to spend meaningful time together sharing
the year’s accomplishments and challenges. The Girl Scouts were invited
to share their talents and smiles with the adults and children to help
foster a weekend of solidarity. Troop 20 never lacked ideas and energy
to make this a memorable weekend for all. Here is what the girls had to
say:

Girl Scouting For All Girls Soaring Beyond Greatness |
Girl Scouting… For All Girls Soaring Beyond Greatness
“Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who
make the world a better place.” I very much like the fact that world is
in this statement. Our girls here in Paris are travellers, they are
raised in a culture that may not be the one of their parents or they
have parents of different cultures. Girl Scouting is taking all these
‘new’ girls and cultures into consideration and that is very positive.
Girl Scouting is a culture in itself. It has to be innovative and give
the girls relevant experiences that grow and change as girls do. It
also has to be flexible for the volunteers involved. Through the Girl
Scouting years the girls will discover, lead and take action.

Girls Grow Strong
I’ve seen so many girls Grow Strong over the years, many who are now
Senior Girl Scouts or have gone on to university. It’s an awesome
thought to think that Girl Scouting may have had a small part in the
success that they have achieved. Of course, this applies to all of the
other girls from the Daisies on up. Our program at USAGSO-Paris
prepares girls of all ages to be whatever the want to be. The great
thing is when you talk to the girls, they really believe that.

Why are you wearing those pins? |
“Why are you wearing those pins?”
Every time I attend a community event, I wear the “mini” version of our
Girl Scout pins on my jacket lapel. At a recent event, I was astounded
by the number of people that I met specifically because they saw the
pins and came over to inquire. Almost everyone had a Girl Scout story.
Some were Girl Scouts when they were young, or their mothers were
leaders, or they had attended Girl Scout camp in the summers. Others
inquired about cookies...
