Seinesational News Room

Welcome to our Girl's publication room where the girls are the editors-in-chief. Discover how the Girl Scouts in Paris are making a difference in their community at home and abroad! Seinesational News is news for girls by girls. Each issue is as unique as the troop who publishes it; the headlines change but the news is always Seinesational!

Can a woman fly an airplane?

ts_vets_girl_article_image_2008_image_2_x240.jpgMy name is Carlotta from Troop #1. When my big sister was a Daisy, one of the first songs she learned at Girl Scouts started with “Can a woman fly an airplane? Yes she can, yes she can." I learned it, too. Now I’m a Daisy myself and I got to meet women students of the Air Force academy at the Escadrille Lafayette Memorial and I sang them the song.

After a short ceremony everyone went down into the crypt and they called the names of the pilots and kids put a rose on each tomb. Later, a colonel thanked us as young Americans for coming and reminded us of the links between our countries.

Dancing With Dad

dwdweb1.jpgOn Saturday April 12, JGS Troop 23 hosted a Father-Daughter dance in the Marymount school cafeteria. Girl Scouts and their dads, from Daisy to Junior, showed up to strut their stuff.

The cafeteria was decorated with purple-star string lights, colorful tulips, and adorable animals strung from the ceiling - all to create a springtime feeling for the dance.

Free To be Simply Me

freetobesiumplyme.jpg In January, Junior, Cadette and Senior Paris Girl Scouts gathered in the Chateau at Jambville to participate in activities designed to help them show their inner beauty and focus on being “Simply Me.” The event was organized by Troop 21. Seline, Simone, Margaux, Eloise, Lucie and Tasha, along with their adult advisors Ann and Kim, organized workshops for Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

The girls learned yoga for fitness and stress control, and made collages to celebrate their uniqueness. They customized jeans and T-shirts and learned to walk like a runway model.

Learning to Lead

learning_to_lead_250.jpgI had no idea what I was getting myself into when I signed up for Leadership Camp.

The day of check-in my stomach was tied in knots. I felt better when my sister, Seline, and I arrived at the beautiful Peace College campus in Raleigh, North Carolina, where the leadership camp took place. The lovely grounds with huge trees, flowering plants and brick buildings combined with the friendly welcoming committee to calm my hesitation. "I think I can do this!!" We settled into dorm rooms and enjoyed a meal in the cafeteria. I kind of felt like this was an introduction to college in the U.S.A.

Every morning, we had leadership activities, discussions, and other work in the college classrooms. We discussed different values, positive traits and negative attitudes, and characteristics good leaders possess.

Willingness is essential in any initiation or in making an dream come true. 'I can't' often means 'I won't.' You can change 'I won't' to 'I will' with willpower.
